Lifetime Diamond Upgrade
Trade your centre diamond back to us at any point in the future, for full credit against a larger one. There is no time limit, and the credit never depreciates.
- Credit
- 100% of what you paid for the diamond
- Time limit
- None
- New stone must be
- At least 1.5× the original's value
- Turnaround
- 10–14 business days
How it works
A first ring is often bought at the edge of a budget. This exists so that the stone you could afford then does not become the stone you are stuck with. Bring the diamond back — in a year or in twenty — and every rupee you paid for it comes off the price of a larger one.
The credit is the diamond's original purchase price, not its market value on the day you return it, and not a depreciated figure. If you paid Rs. 1,40,000 for the centre stone, you have Rs. 1,40,000 to spend on the next one, whenever you choose to spend it.
What qualifies
- The diamond was bought from Smiling Rocks and is still in its original setting
- You have the original IGI certificate
- The stone is undamaged — no chips, no fractures
- The replacement diamond is worth at least 1.5× the original
The 1.5× rule is what makes the programme an upgrade rather than a resale. It is the only condition people are usually surprised by, so it is worth saying plainly: you cannot trade a diamond for one of similar value, and you cannot take the credit in cash.
This benefit belongs to the Promise Price. Pieces bought at the discounted Value Deal price are excluded — the Value price is lower precisely because diamond exchange, buyback and upgrade do not come with it. That is stated on every product page beside the Value option, and it cannot be added retrospectively.
What the credit covers
The credit applies to the centre diamond only. Gold, side diamonds and making charges are priced separately and are not part of the exchange — a new setting, if you want one, is quoted on the day at current gold rates.
Many people keep the original setting and simply have the larger stone set into it. Whether that is possible depends on the design: a shank cut for a 1.5 ct round will not always take a 2.5 ct oval. We will tell you which case yours is before you commit to anything.
The process
- Tell us what you have and roughly what you want to move to.
- We arrange free insured collection of the existing piece.
- We verify the diamond against its certificate — the laser inscription on the girdle has to match the report number. This takes 2–3 business days.
- We confirm your credit in writing, along with the price of the new stone and any setting work.
- Once you approve, the new piece is made and sent back insured. Allow 10–14 business days.
Collection and return shipping are free. If you decide not to proceed after the valuation, we send your piece back, also free.
How many times
As often as you like. Each upgrade resets: the new diamond carries the same benefit at its own purchase price, so a stone bought as an upgrade can itself be traded up later.
