Ring Size Guide

A ring should sit snugly at the base of the finger and clear the knuckle without forcing. Here is how to measure at home. All sizes follow the Indian standard.

Method one — the paper strip

For when you don't have a ring to hand.

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper or thread, about 10 cm long.
  2. Wrap it snugly around the base of your finger, just below the knuckle.
  3. Mark where the strip overlaps.
  4. Lay it flat and measure to the mark in millimetres.
  5. Match that number to the Circumference column.

Method two — a ring you already own

More accurate, if you have one that fits the intended finger.

  1. Place the ring flat on a millimetre ruler.
  2. Measure the inner diameter, edge to edge across the widest point.
  3. Match that number to the Diameter column.

Getting it right

  • Measure at the end of the day. Fingers swell as the day goes on, so an evening reading is the truest one.
  • Measure at room temperature — cold fingers shrink, warm fingers expand.
  • Your dominant hand is usually about half a size larger.
  • Wider bands, 4 mm and above, sit more snugly. Consider going up half a size.
  • If your knuckle is much wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
  • Measure two or three times on different days and use the largest reading.
  • Every ring includes a complimentary resize, so a near miss is easily put right.
